Daniel
Steele,
professor of Music Education and graduate coordinator
for the School of Music, has been on the faculty at Central Michigan
University since 1983. He specializes in preschool, elementary, and
middle school music methods. Dr. Steele previously taught K-6
general music for eight years in Ohio, and has served as membership
chair of the Michigan Music Educators Association and is a past
president of the MMEA. He received the Music Educator of the Year
award from MMEA in 2007. He is treasurer and a member of the
executive committee of the Michigan Music Conference, serves on the
Executive Committee and Board of the Michigan Youth Arts Festival,
and the board of Very Special Arts of Michigan. He has been
published in the Bulletin of Historical Research in Music Education,
The Michigan Music Educator, and recently published an elementary
methods textbook and accompanying DVD entitled Music Is Fundamental:
Fundamentals and Methods for Elementary Music. He has presented
sessions at the Michigan Music Conference, the Michigan Music
Education in-service conference as well as at the Alma Conference
and the summer workshop at Michigan State University. Dr. Steele
received the B.M.E. from Wheaton College, the M.M. from the
University of Kansas, and the D.M.E. from the University of
Cincinnati.
