Mary
Stewart Kiesgen,
associate professor of voice, became a member of the
voice faculty at Central Michigan University in 1977. A soprano,
she has served on the faculty of Wichita State University, has sung
professionally in Chicago, New York, Iowa, Florida, Kansas, Ohio,
Illinois and Michigan, and was a leading soprano with the Israel
National Opera in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa. She has sung with
Milwaukee Skylight Opera, Apollo Opera and other such organizations
throughout the Midwest. She was a professional member of the
Chicago Symphony Chorus under the direction of Margaret Hillis and
the Mid-America Chorale under the direction of John Dexter, which
toured the Midwest specializing in the performance of contemporary
choral music. She holds degrees from Northwestern University, and
she studied voice with Hermanus Baer and opera with Boris
Goldovsky and Wesley Balk. She has most recently studied voice
in Vienna with Frau Renate Holm, Kammersingerin, and Herr Ehlmar
Brenneis of the Vienna Staatsoper. She was appointed academic
director of the Vienna Semester, fall 1995, for the Consortium of
Midwest Colleges and Universities.
