The School of Music offers comprehensive courses in various aspects of Music Technology. New this summer for in-service teachers, CMU will offer courses leading to Level 1 certification in Music Technology by the Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME).

MUS 109 Introduction to Music Technology
1 credit (1-1)
A hands-on introduction to the technology available in the School of Music. Students learn to use the equipment found in the Computer Music and CAMIL labs. Topics covered include sequencing, notation software, CAI software, synthesizers and samplers. Required of all music education majors.

MUS 209 Music Synthesis I
2 credits (2-0)
Prerequisite: MUS 109 & MUS 102 or permission of instructor Use professional-level sequencing, notation and related software to develop an understanding of the rhythm section and basic arranging concepts. Required of Theory/Composiiton majors.

MUS 309 Music Synthesis II
2 credits (2-0)
Prerequisite: MUS 209 or permission of instructor Advanced topics in Music Technology. Emphasis on digital audio, signal processing and Internet audio.

MUS 504 Intro to 20th Century Composition
2 credits (2-0)
Prerequisite: MUS 309 Explore composiitonal styles and techniques used by contemporary composers with an emphasis on electronic and experimental music.

MUS 597D Basic Skills in Music Technology I – TI:ME Level 1A
2 credits
Develop skills using electronic instruments with notation and sequencing software and strategies for their use in the classroom.

MUS 597E Basic Skills in Music Technology II – TI:ME Level 1B
2 credits
This course will focus on the creation of lesson plans and materials using instructional software, digital media and the Internet.
