CMU SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The CMU Symphony Orchestra is the student based orchestral ensemble serving the university community. Every year the orchestra gives several major concerts including full symphony orchestra concerts, a choral/orchestral concert with the Festival Chorus, a music theatre or opera production, and a children's concert for Mid-Michigan area fourth graders. The orchestra also sponsors an annual Concerto/Aria Competition for students of the CMU School of Music. Winners of the competition play with the orchestra during their April concert.

Frequently the orchestra members are involved with master classes presented by guest artists visiting campus or soloists with the Midland Symphony Orchestra.

The Orchestra has performed with Metropolitan Opera tenor Jerry Hadley and in the spring of 2000, combined with the Alma Symphony and Alma College in a residency program with Camerata Antonio Lucio, a professional chamber orchestra from the Netherlands.
